About me
I am an evolutionary biologist and toxinologist from India. Based at the Indian Institute of Science in Bangalore, I serve as Associate Professor and lead the Evolutionary Venomics Lab. I combine evolutionary biology, molecular genetics, and translational research to address one of India’s most urgent yet highly neglected public health challenges: snakebite envenoming. I am also a Wellcome Trust/DBT India Alliance Fellow and the founder of the Venom Institute for Snakebite Healing and Advanced Medicine (VISHAM).
Of late, while my lab has placed a major emphasis on snakebite, my primary focus for over 15 years has been the evolution of venoms. Naturally, I’m drawn to questions that provide insights into the biology of venomous animals and the evolution of venoms. You can explore my academic background here, and if you’d like to delve into my research, please visit my lab website.

When I’m not in the lab (or on the cricket field), I’m usually in remotest corners of the world, seeking wildlife to photograph :) I especially enjoy photographing birds and snakes.
